Comments:This piece was made while almost exclusively listening to Louis Armstrong's “What a Wonderful World”. I strongly encourage this song be listened to while viewing the painting. It helps to transport you to the feeling of the idea of the painting. My work is created with one of two separate methods; extreme planning or no planning at all. This painting was created using the latter method. It began as dripping, rolling, scraping, brushing and spraying many colors of paint onto the canvas where ever it “felt” right. Then I simply decided I was going to orientate the canvas in a vertical fashion to begin. The colors on top reminded me of the part of the song discussing the colors of the rainbow being in the sky, with the night sky creeping in on the left. Blues are also reflected off white clouds. Next came the river, trees and landscaping.I have been interested in the idea of jesters throughout my life. I recently realized they unintentionally keep recurring in my art so I decided to learn more about them. Not the same as a clown; I enjoy that they wear colorful clothing and are distinguished by their clothing as being “without class”. They fit in among the very wealthy and the very poor. They are comics, storytellers and advisers to kings and queens. Sometimes they are the only ones able to bring devastating news to the royalty without consequence. There is often a deeper meaning to their stories. This “Jess-ter” is a self-portrait as I am telling the story of the song. I often feel a relationship as being a jester in my life. I often heed stories of warning, and I believe many people do not see the beauty left in the world; they need art to show them how to experience this beauty. This jester is orchestrating and painting the scene with the rose. Although the painting follows the song, the jester is creating the world as she envisions it. Some parts are not solidified yet, but wisping into existence with the musical tones.
